A welcome with room in it

Hospitality begins when we leave space for another person.

Hospitality begins before we know who is coming. It starts when we leave enough room in our plans to be interrupted by another person. At Grace Parish, we are learning that welcome is more than a friendly sign on the door.

It is the host who explains a part of the service without making anyone feel foolish. It is a clear path to a seat, a printed guide that is easy to read, and an invitation that carries no pressure to answer immediately. The details tell people whether we expected them to belong.

Our neighbors arrive with different histories of church. Some carry gratitude. Others carry disappointment or grief. We cannot assume what a person needs, but we can ask, listen carefully, and make a practical change when one is possible.

This week, notice one place where your own routines could make room for someone else. An extra chair, a slower introduction, a meal offered at a useful time. A generous welcome does not require a perfect house or a polished life. It requires attention and a willingness to share.

Join us on Sunday at 10 AM as we continue the conversation. You can bring your questions, sit quietly, or stay for coffee afterward. There is room to begin where you are, and there are people here who will be glad to meet you.

Bring this reflection into a conversation at home or over coffee. Ask where you have noticed care this week, and where you might offer some. There is no need for a perfect answer. A shared question can become a good beginning when we give each other time to think.
